PRP Injections are performed as an outpatient procedure. They involve an injection of concentrated growth factors or stem cells to regenerate and heal tissues in degenerative spinal discs, joints, muscles, tendons or ligaments.
PRP Injections can be used to treat acute or chronic pain conditions related to degenerative disease. PRP Injections include obtaining concentrated platelets, growth factors or adult stem cells to accelerate the healing process.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is concentrated form of your own blood that contains platelets, proteins, stem cells, and growth factors that promote healing and regeneration of injured or painful areas. It is simple but very powerful!
PRP is created using a small sample of your blood which is then centrifuged at high speeds to isolate the plasma rich in platelets and other regenerative cells.
Once the PRP is created, it is very carefully injected under ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance to the affected tissue in our medical office. We highly recommend where ever you have PRP injections that your procedure is performed under guided imaging.
PRP Therapy has proven to be very effective at relieving pain and regenerating tissue in multiple research studies. MRI images have confirmed successful tissue repair following PRP therapy in multiple different sites in the body. Usually patients start noticing some improvement between 2-4 weeks after the injection. Improvement is slow and gradual as your body is healing and regenerating the affected area. The cells injected remain in the area about 6 months working hard to heal the tissue.
